Spam & Spit

What is spam/spit?

When you receive large amounts of unsolicited e-mails, text messages or mms messages, we call that spam. If you place calls over the internet and you receive unwanted calls over the internet by a computer, that's called spit, short for Spam over Internet Telephony.

Prevent spam & spit.

An e-mail address, mobile Phone number or even a VoiP address can get into the hands of spammers in different ways. There are programs that scan the internet searching for e-mail addresses that are visible on web pages. For instance, your e-mail address can appear on a website  when you subscribe to a forum. Sometimes, e-mail address are made public in user profiles. If your e-mail address is made public, a software program can read the e-mail address on the webpage, save it and used to send spam.

The best way to prevent spam is by making sure that your personal details will not appear online. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely ban spam from your computer. So, never reply on unsolicited e-mails.
